Our robotics workshops consist of four sessions of fun and interactive activities that allow participants to explore Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Using the second generation VEX IQ kits purchased from VEX Robotics, a subsidiary of Innovation First International, participants will build and program a robot as well as engage with their peers through a mini challenge at the end of the workshops.
VEX IQ is a snap together construction system that makes for a fun and easy build while still providing opportunities for individuals to challenge their learning. Using the VEX IQ kits, participants will build a robot from the instruction manual provided, but are also encouraged to incorporate their own design elements to explore their creative side. Mentors will guide participants along the way.
After completing the building aspect of the robot, participants will begin programming using VEXcode IQ. VEXcode provides both basic drag-and-drop block coding and more advanced text coding. Participants will program their robot so that it can operate in a challenge autonomously.
During the second half of the workshop series, participants have an opportunity to apply the skills they have developed to complete a mini game/challenge. We offer a variety of different challenges such as Stacking Challenges, Driving Challenges and Programming Challenges.
